The Sevenoaks District Council is understandably proud of its recent decisions to invest substantial sums in local sports facilities. As Conservative Council leader Peter Fleming pointed out, over £20m has been allocated to invest in and support sport and leisure facilities across the Sevenoaks district.
Councillor Fleming explained “In Swanley, we have invested in the largest single capital project in the last 30 years. The building work continues a pace as the new White Oak Leisure Centre takes shape. This investment sits alongside several other significant projects for the town.”
At a recent Community Infrastructure Board meeting, Sevenoaks District Councillors also agreed funding for the Orchard Academy sports hall improvements. “This brings our overall contribution to this project to over £200k, with the Academy Trust funding further works to improve the facility” he added.
In Sevenoaks, the Community Infrastructure Board agreed over £1m in funding to support a multi-million-pound investment in new sporting facilities at the Trinity School, Weald of Kent Grammar and Tunbridge Wells Boys Grammar annexes.
Councillor Fleming explained “Sevenoaks District Council has secured £235,000 to help our local leisure centres reopen when restrictions ease on the 12th April
This funding, alongside over £300,000 of previously agreed funding will support Sencio Community Leisure, which operates the leisure centres at Sevenoaks, Swanley and Edenbridge as well as the Lullingstone Park golf course on behalf of the Council”.
The funding will be passed to Sencio to help these leisure centres reopen safely as part of ‘Step Two’ of the Government’s roadmap to easing the lockdown, following their closure in December.
