Many people do not realise that during the third lockdown some 50% of state school children have not been getting any live lessons from their teachers.
Whilst local schools around Sevenoaks have been done a great job in supplying work for the children to do at home, Sevenoaks Conservative District Councillor, Anna Firth said “As a parent of three, I saw this gap in the country’s schooling as a very serious situation both educationally and for children’s mental health, so I decided to try to do something positive about it, providing much needed live lessons for those losing out”.
Together with a few of her many contacts, Anna saw to the creation of Invicta National Academy. As a result, since July 2020, www.InvictaAcademy.com, has been providing FREE, live, online lessons throughout the third lockdown.
Anna explained “Our objective has been to help children learn and also to give them more confidence and make them feel better about themselves when they do finally go back to school. Our lessons are interactive and are lead by qualified teachers accomplished in online teaching. Between them they have delivered over 55,000 hours of teaching in national curriculum Maths and English to nearly 10,000 children”.
Parents have described the service as “an absolute life-line and a godsend”.
Councillor Firth admits “I have been thrilled with how my idea took off and how widely used and beneficial it seems to have been for so many children – to say nothing of their hard-pressed parents!”
