Otford and Shoreham branch arranged a wine tasting and tour of Mount Vineyard in Shoreham.
We were walked out to the vines and given an interesting talk by one of the knowledgeable member of staff. He explained how frost had badly damaged some of the vines, although the quality of the remaining grapes would not be affected. He talked us through the production of their wine and answered a number of questions. One vine only produces about half a bottle of wine, and the Vineyard has produced in previous years up to 10.,000 bottles!
They produce 8 different grape varieties - albeit the Chardonnay grapes would not be ready for wine production for a few years more.
We then moved inside, when we were able to taste all of the wines they currently produce as well as tucking into a cheese and charcuterie board.
It was a wonderful evening and Mount Vineyard is a place you really ought to visit - the venue and surroundings are superb. Further information can be obtained via their website www.themountvineyard.co.uk
