Swanley Recreation Ground can now look forward to new, refreshed changing facilities thanks to the recent generous contribution of £12500 by KCC Councillor Michael Horwood from his Combined Members Grant, help from Swanley Town Council and a-political Swanley Rugby Club to deliver the project.
Covering a 9-acre site in the centre of Swanley, the Recreation Ground provides several full-size football and rugby pitches, 6 floodlit all-weather tennis and netball courts, croquet pitch, large play area and one of the biggest and best rollerblading and bmx areas in the region.
It is home for and used by several clubs including Swanley Rugby Club, Swanley Rangers, Swanley Oaks and Swanley FC. Additionally, the facilities are used by local schools for grass root sport activities during the summer and winter as well as being used for various community events and activities.
The funding will assist in bringing forward the planned re-furbishment of the existing changing rooms, which are in urgent need of renovation. The toilets will be replaced and additional toilets installed, the changing rooms will be re-furbished with new showers and benches. The ceiling will be repaired and the electrics up-dated. The new changing facility will now be a more inclusive environment more suitable for mixed-use.
Perry Cole, the new Conservative candidate for the KCC Swanley Division in the forthcoming County Elections fully supports and welcomes the allocation of these funds to this project. "Anything that attracts more people to take-up or continue a sport is to be applauded. If elected, I will continue to fight for additional funding and resources for Swanley sports groups".
