Sevenoaks and Swanley Conservatives are celebrating a fantastic result for Laura Trott MP for being re-elected in the recent General Election.
Despite a terribly disappointing set of results nationally, 18,328 residents across the constituency chose to back Laura and the Conservatives and rejected the other candidates. Many residents had commented how hard she had worked for their local area, and valued her as a champion for their communities.
Chairman of Sevenoaks Conservative Association, Cllr Roddy Hogarth stated: “We are incredibly proud of the re-election of Laura as our MP, who has done a great job working on behalf of local residents since being elected just five years ago.”
“It was also highly notable that the Liberal Democrats, despite their claims of it being “neck and neck” with bar charts on their leaflets showing a 1% difference between the two parties, failed to make any significant vote increase, and fell far short of winning the seat.
It is clear that voters simply don’t see the Liberal Democrats as an alternative party here in the District – particularly when they still can’t even come close to winning this seat in one of the worst national election results for the Conservatives in history”.
