To coincide with the showing of the film "Darkest Hour" we organised a fundraising event at the Stag. We hired the whole screen exclusively to ourselves and sold all 110 tickets!
We had great canapes from Barbara Reade and Vivien Nix, some excellent raffle prizes including a bottle of champagne signed by Boris Johnson, who also kindly signed a hardback copy of his book on Churchill (The Churchill Factor) which we auctioned to raise additional funds.
The highlight of the event was a talk from Katherine Carter introducing the film, including how Gary Oldman researched Churchill and how to play him. Katherine was totally complementary both about Gary Oldman's portrayal of Churchill, but the astonishing accuracy of the film. The feedback we had for both the event and film has been excellent and you can be sure that we will keep an eye out for other suitable films in the future.
Thanks to Barbara Reade, Vivien Nix, Alan and Virginia Milne for manning the complementary drink bar, Andrew Eyre and the staff at the Stag for ensuring the event went extremely smoothly, Graham Clack for organising the event and Diana Elser for the astonishing amount she raised by selling raffle tickets! Hopefully we've not missed out anyone!
