Leadership front-runner Boris Johnson popped in to Sevenoaks this morning (1st July) to meet local conservative members and to outline his plans for defence should be become PM later this month. Nearly 100 people were able, at very short notice, to get to the event on a lovely summer morning and he did not disappoint the gathered throng with his positive and inspirational words.
He was very clear that he will put a stop to the persecution of former military personnel who have done nothing more that defend our country. He also plans to increase defence spending, particularly on the navy.
More generally, he was clear that we, as a party, must develop a positive vision for the UK post-Brexit and ensure that the opposition parties, and their leaders, are prevented from setting the political agenda in future.
We'll all drink to that!
